Which Skincare Treatment Is Best for You?

Skincare treatments have become increasingly popular, with more options available than ever before. Whether you’re looking for smoother skin, a youthful glow, or solutions to specific concerns like acne scars or wrinkles, choosing the right skincare treatment can be overwhelming.

There are a lot more people now turning to aesthetic procedures, but here at Sparkle Beauty, we offer a range of results-driven treatments that aren’t as invasive as aesthetics but are a step up from your average relaxation facial.

A full consultation is carried out when you come for your first appointment, to determine needs and any contra-indications to treatment. Any changes or needs would then be discussed at subsequent appointments.  If you wish to have a stand-alone appointment for a consultation, this can be carried out at a cost of £10 which would then be redeemable against your first treatment.

It is daunting, not knowing where to start, so in this blog, we’ll break down some of the most popular skincare treatments, including: Glycolic Peels, Microneedling, Radio Frequency, Dermaplaning and Facials.

Let’s explore how each one works and what they’re best for.

Glycolic Peels

Glycolic peels are one of the most popular treatments in the skincare world, thanks to their ability to rejuvenate the skin, reduce fine lines, and promote a brighter, smoother complexion.

Glycolic acid is a type of alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane. It’s known for its exfoliating properties, helping to remove the dead skin cells that can make your skin look dull. A glycolic peel is a professional chemical peel where a concentrated solution of glycolic acid is applied to the skin to exfoliate and promote new cell turnover.

What it’s best for:

  • A radiant and glowing appearance
  • Improved texture – smoother and more even skin
  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • Fades pigmentation, age spots & acne scarring
  • Fights acne and unclogs pores

How it works:

When glycolic acid is applied to your skin, it penetrates the top layers and loosens the bonds holding dead skin cells together. This encourages the sloughing off of those dead cells, revealing fresh, new skin beneath. The treatment also stimulates collagen production, which can improve skin texture and elasticity over time. The first peel treatment would be carried out using a 10% Glycolic, then subsequent treatments would be 20% and 30% depending on the skin after the previous appointment. Glycolic Peels can be done on the face/neck, hands or back. They can be carried out as a single treatment, however, they are recommended as a course of 6 treatments for maximum results.

Microneedling (or Collagen Induction Therapy)

Microneedling uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, which tricks the brain into thinking the skin has had an injury and starts pinging collagen and elastin to the surface of the skin. This process improves skin texture, tightens the skin, and reduces the appearance of scars, pores and wrinkles.

What it’s best for:

  • Acne scars
  • Scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Skin texture issues
  • Pigmentation

How it works:

A device with fine needles is rolled over the skin, creating tiny punctures. The body responds by producing more collagen and elastin, leading to firmer smoother and fresh looking skin. Multiple sessions (usually 3-6) are often recommended for optimal maximum results. They would usually be carried out 3 weeks apart. This treatment is ideal for those who want deeper, long-term skin improvement.

Radio Frequency (RF)  (or Non-Invasive Skin Tightening)

Radio frequency uses energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production and tightening loose or sagging skin. It’s a popular choice for non-invasive skin tightening.

What it’s best for:

  • Loose or sagging skin
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin firmness/Elasticity
  • Sculpting (particularly jowls)

How it works:

RF energy is delivered through a device that gently heats the skin, encouraging collagen regeneration. The treatment is relatively comfortable and requires no downtime.  At Sparkle Beauty we use the Silhouette Dermatherm Trio, which has a built-in vacuum (good for drainage, puffiness and sculpting), it also has a built-in LED system.  RF can be carried out on face, neck, décolleté, arms, thighs or tummy. It is recommended as a course of at least 6 treatments which would be 7-10 days apart and it can also be combined with Microneedling.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation method where a trained professional uses a sterile scalpel to gently remove dead skin cells and vellus hair (peach fuzz). It leaves the skin feeling ultra-smooth, soft and hair free. This allows better product absorption levels and make-up application.

What it’s best for:

  • Smoothing the skin
  • Removing peach fuzz
  • Enhancing makeup application

How it works:

The specialist uses a scalpel to exfoliate the topmost layer of dead skin and hair, revealing a smoother, more radiant complexion.

This is safe for most skin types but not for those with active acne or rosacea. Results are immediate, but maintenance is required (usually every 6-8 weeks). This is available at Sparkle Beauty as a standard treatment or deluxe, which will also include a painless peel treatment & facemask.

Facials

Facials are a relaxing and customised skincare treatment.  They include a combination of cleansing, exfoliation, massage, face mask and aftercare products. They can be customised based on your skin type and concerns, using a variety of products and techniques.

What it’s best for:

  • General skin maintenance
  • Relaxation
  • All skin types
  • A range of different skin issues

How it works:

A facial typically begins with a deep cleansing, followed by exfoliation, facial massage, targeted face mask then followed by aftercare products. At Sparkle Beauty we use the brand Matis Paris and we offer a wide range of Matis Facials to target specific skin concerns. A full consultation will carried out to determine the correct facial is selected and our facials are available in 30, 60 or 90 minute treatments.

A 60 minute plus treatment will include an arm and head massage as well as aftercare and recommendations for products.  We also retail a full range of Matis home-care products.

How to Choose the Best Skincare Treatment for You

The best treatment for your skin depends on your specific goals and concerns. It’s always a good idea to consult with a skincare professional who can assess your skin and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
